Danielle Winters

Danielle was born in Long Beach, California. She has lived in Irvine, California her whole life and was raised and confirmed as a Catholic in the Saint Elizabeth Ann Seaton Church. She still practices Catholicism and sometimes even attends two masses on Sunday mornings, a Catholic mass with her mother and a Christian service with her boyfriend, Collin.

As a young child, Danielle spent most of her time either watching her favorite TV program, Barney, or playing games outside with her older sister, Candice. Danielle always really liked being outside, and nothing about nature scared her. She would always play with the “rolly-pollies” or go around killing all the spiders in the house. As a young child, Danielle dreamed about becoming a firefighter until one day her father told her girls in the fire academy have to keep short hair. She shortly changed her mind.

As a young girl, Danielle still spent most of her time outside, but there was a radical difference. She no longer liked playing with bugs and riding her tricycle around the neighborhood. Danielle started spending her time outdoors trying to make money. Around the age of six years, Danielle found a passion for cooking and especially baking. She had watched her mom cook meals all the time and helped her grandmother bake Christmas cookies every year, and after a few years of helping her mother and grandmother, she wanted to cook alone. Danielle’s mother even built a miniature kitchen in the garage so that Danielle could bake goodies and sell them right out of the back yard. Danielle still is a very good chef and baker, and she is convinced her talent was passed down to her through her Italian heritage.

Danielle’s childhood and early teenage years were spent hanging out with her friends, cousins, and sister, baking a lot, and swimming. Danielle was an excellent swimmer and even placed sixth in the Junior Olympics in the seventh grade, but after ten solid years of swimming, Danielle decided to take on a new sport. She decided to start playing volleyball her freshman year in high school. Danielle did a volleyball camp the summer before starting high school and fell in love with the sport. She made the freshman team that year and placed fourth in the Junior Olympics that same year with her club team. Danielle played on the Varsity team her junior and senior year and was even nominated captain her senior year.

During her high school years, Danielle got involved in many different activities. On top of year-round volleyball, she held positions in many different clubs such as KIWIN’s, Best Buddies, Save Darfur, and California Scholarship Federation. Danielle also interned at a veterinary office for 5 months where she found her passion for medicine. Throughout her entire high school career, Danielle always knew that she would eventually pursue a career in the health professions so Danielle worked hard in high school. She took seven AP classes, five of which were taken her senior year, three other honors courses. She graduated at the top of her class with a 4.37 GPA.

After four long years of high school, Danielle is looking forward to attending the University of Texas at Austin this fall where she plans to obtain a degree in nursing, join a sorority, attend Sunday mass, and do other volunteer work.
